Old Blue

Oldblue_001
Here is the d300 version of Old Blue. Due to circumstances outside my control, I did not have my large strobes, only two SB800s. Still, it turned out decent for my purposes and is roughly what I had in mind.

My "Project" Love/Hate Relationship

I have a love/hate relationship with photography projects. After all, when you're a mom of two with two jobs and volunteer commitments, many things are a challenge. I love photography and I love my life, so balance between the two is essential. I also love a good challenge! My first project, Project50, was a HUGE success. It was 50 consecutive days of 50 photos taken with my 50mm lens. I loved every minute of that project! I loved it so much that I decided I would totally love a Project365 too (taking a photo a day for an entire year). A year is a long time, so I made it even easier on myself by restricting my photos to ones that I both shot and edited on my iPhone (after all, according to Chase Jarvis, the best camera is the one that's with you). It was 01/01/10 and I thought, this will be a piece of cake! Boy was I wrong. 2010 just was not my year for undertaking a year-long project commitment. It was a busy, and sometimes difficult year, to say the least, with miscarriage, loss, difficult life changes, pregnancy, and a complete overhaul of my photography business. I held out until June, Day 164 to be exact. At that point, something had to give and Project365 did not survive the chopping block. That was a very hard decision,  especially when I have an inborn desire to never leave something incomplete. I won't say I regretted the decision because I really didn't. I had so much going on anyway... Project365 was one less thing to cause me stress. I still enjoyed watching my friends continue and successfully complete their Project365: Paul Giunta, Christa Watson, Jon Yager, Caroline Blake, to name a few. So what's the point of all this? Well, I am seeking balance in 2011 and resolving to be sure that my priorities are always in place. With that in mind, I am undertaking a less stringent photography project for my little blog here: posting a photoaday. Notice that I say "posting" not "taking". And I'm not going to beat myself up if I miss a day... no numbering this time. My goal is to keep up my skills doing something I enjoy and sharing it with my friends here, but not letting it take over my life. Here's to 2011!
